Ultimately the goal of this resource is help get children more active in whatever the setting – schools, camps, daycares and beyond. The most recent Canadian version of the Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth was very alarming. Only 25 percent of Canada’s children are meeting the weekly physical activity standards. Running organized physical activities at recess is another way to help children reach their daily goal of 60 minutes of activity. Teachers, childcare workers, and other leaders all have a role to play in getting children more active. Teaching children to play some of these traditional playground games might encourage them to play these games on their own or with their friends in other settings too.
